Gummi 0.4.5 released
Despite earlier reports, one more update before 0.5.0 has just been released. Gummi 0.4.5 again offers many improvements, most noticably the replacement of the GConf configuration by a default python module. A number of stability and memory issues should also have been fixed. Click here for the full changelist. All packages for the mayor distributions have been updated; enjoy 0.4.5! Note to packagers: GConf and gnome-python can be removed from the dependency list.
No more gnome-cake for Gummi
I committed a large patch to subversion last night that deserves special mention, as it will undoubtedly make a lot of the non-gnome users very happy. Gummi's GConf configuration was replaced by ConfigParser, a standard python module that writes .ini-like files. Its not as advanced as gconf, but switching has not only made it possible to drop the Gnome dependencies, but will also simplify a port to other platforms in the future. A big thanks to all involved in the bug's discussion.
Writing code for Gummi
Gummi is looking for one or two enthusiasts to join the dev ranks! The response to Gummi so far has been very positive, and this is reflected by the amount of feature requests in the issue tracker. Gummi 0.5.0 will include all the features that have been accepted so far (and more). We're aiming to release it before December 30th 2009. Unfortunately, it has become clear that university and other activities will make that a very tight deadline with the current amount of manpower. If you are comfortable with python & gtk and interested in formally contributing to this project, drop me a line at alexvandermey {at} gmail.com or contact me on freenode irc (alexandervdm) and we can discuss the details.
